Why I Wrote the Book
I volunteered in my church to help with the three to five year old Sunday School class.
It was spring, and the class was learning about the crucifxion and resurrection of Jesus. Somehow during this time I went from someone that was only helping every other week to being there every week and the class lead. Maybe it was because as a single, it was easier to be there every week where those who weren't didn't have that luxury.
There were a great many lessons learned that year in the class, a new curriculum for the fall and winter that I absolutely questioned but embraced. It did work out well. Until Christmas.
It was the Sunday before Christmas and the kids were bouncing off the wall. I knew there was no point in focusing on anything but that. I wanted to bring it back to what the reason was for Christmas and how we can remember what the reason behind it was.
The story in the book is about that Sunday School circle time. Some of the story is fictional to give it more than just a circle time talk. For the most part, the story is what happened in the classroom that day.
Over the years, many a person has told me that Christmas is not in the Bible. I wanted to remind adults of the "reason for the season" as much as the kids, so I wrote a book that parents, teachers, and churches can share with the kids around them.
The plan is to write an adult version of this book with more details. Details that, to the naysayers, will show that Christmas is, in fact, in the Bible. A book that will remind adults that the symbolism of Christ's birth and death are, in fact, in every aspect of how we celebrate the season.
